Americans spent more on marijuana this past Halloween than candy, chocolates, and costumes combined?

The sales of candy, candy, and even costumes during the Halloween weekend that has just ended has certainly been dwarfed by cannabis sales. Americans surely value their traits over their goodies. In a new release, Akerna revealed that the average American adult spent at least $ 77 on cannabis products on Halloween. On the flip side, less than $ 70 was spent on Halloween costumes and goodies that same weekend.

A new report found that spending on cannabis and cannabis products for Halloween exceeded spending on Halloween-related purchases in 2021.

Halloween is a tradition that can be traced back to the mid-19th century when the Irish first settled in the country. Since then, the trick or treat culture has established itself and is now one of the most common and oldest holidays in the country. The expectations of many for this year’s Halloween weren’t all that! Most people didn’t want to raise hopes after an uneventful Halloween last year thanks to the pandemic. It found that many American adults of age only wanted to smoke weed as the day fell on a weekend.

This Halloween, the National Retail Federation (NFR) found that an average of $ 30 was spent on candy and $ 33 on costumes. Every year current purchases trump those of previous years. That year, Americans chose to enjoy the festivities with cannabis rather than the usual costumes and sweets. Staying home and watching horror movies featuring cannabis was certainly an activity.

According to Akerna’s report, cannabis stores and pharmacies made ample sales across the country during that period. In total, about $ 180 million was raised from recreational and medicinal cannabis sales. That is 8.2 percent more than in the previous year. The highest sales volume was recorded on Friday October 29th. Of that total, $ 81 million was spent on cannabis and its delivery products. This is the ninth most important sales day in the history of the cannabis industry.

According to previous Akerna publications, this year saw more significant days of cannabis sales on Labor Day, July 4th, Valentine’s Day and Memorial Day. April 20th, 2021 was the most memorable day for cannabis entrepreneurs. It generated over $ 112 million that day, the highest cannabis sales ever recorded in legal cannabis retail.

For the past decade, marijuana has become popular for holiday celebrations and festivities. The profitability of a constitutional state is often improved by the expressive sales of these periods.

When a holiday or national event falls on a Friday, it usually generates massive sales from cannabis outlets across the country. Akerna’s business intelligence architect, James Ahrendt, confirmed this claim. He said the data received over the years shows that pharmacies and cannabis retailers have the highest sales when a holiday falls on a weekend. Most of the traffic is observed on Friday of this weekend.

Compared to the $ 81 million recorded this Friday, approximately $ 60 million worth of cannabis and its products were sold on Saturday October 30, while on Sunday October 31, the lowest sales were made with less than $ 40 million in revenue.

According to the report, the data received for the bank holiday weekend (October 29-31) was cannabis flower as the top-selling product at 47%. This is followed by cartridges / vape pens (32%), concentrates (10%) and edibles (8%). The remaining 3% came from the other forms of cannabis.

As expected, men bought more products. The report shows that 38% of total cannabis pharmacy customers were women while the rest were men.

Akerna also released the breakdown of total sales by age group. The older population (over 60) was the least represented at 9%. The majority of customers were between 30 and 40 years old.

The remainder includes the under 30 year olds with 28%, the age group of 40 to 50 year olds with 20% and the 50 to 60 year old adults with 12%.

The average total orders for medical cannabis users were $ 118.16 and $ 77 for recreational cannabis users.

The last item in the report is the average shopping cart size. It has been set at 2.90 products for medical cannabis users and 3.00 products for recreational cannabis users.

Holidays like Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are very important to the cannabis industry. Christmas falls on a Saturday this year. This means this weekend would be filled with amazing sales for cannabis dispensaries and retailers. There is a possibility that the sales this weekend will reflect the total sales that took place during this year’s Halloween and probably also on April 20th. that would be dwarfed. This also applies to New Year’s Eve 2022, which also falls on a weekend.

Akerna is a well-respected publicly traded data and technology company led by its CEO Jessica Billingsley. The brand was first introduced eleven years ago. The company has focused its software on tracking the cannabis, hemp, and CBD industries in the United States, providing information on cannabis sales valued at at least $ 20 billion across the country. Akerna is the first cannabis software company to be listed on NASDAQ.

The company uses the MJ platform, a software infrastructure. The MJ platform is the most comprehensive technology ecosystem and compliance gateway system in the global cannabis industry. The details of this report bode well for the cannabis industry as well as for those states with the legal cannabis industry. From year-round data, it is clear that the average American adult prefers to party with cannabis and make memories while on vacation. With data-driven marketing strategies, pharmacies and other operators in the cannabis supply chain can make massive sales this Christmas. Many will receive packaged cannabis products and delivery equipment as Christmas gifts from family and friends. You could be one of those lucky people.
