9 iconic puffs from famous stoners like Doja Cat

From Joan Rivers to JAY-Z, these high-flying influencers have been making waves by blowing smoke at the public.

We knew from her name that chameleon pop star Doja Cat was a smoker. Her debut single “So High” from 2014 was another clue. But Doja may have surprised some pop fans when she was caught puffing (and throwing) her trusty vape at the 2022 Billboard Music Awards on Sunday night.

Before taking the stage to accept the gold mic for Top R&B Album (one of four wins for Doja), she met a mysterious vape that Stans and sleuths have identified as a Flum Float device. The clip has since been tagged with gifs and memes, and went viral on Twitter to praise tweets with mostly positive quotes praising their ability to form relationships.

Doja is far from the first celebrity to smoke something other than cigarettes in public, and she certainly won’t be the last. And her Billboard Awards moment reminded us of other iconic hits, rips and puffs from some of our favorite famous smokers over the years.

Barack and Malia Obama as college students

The Obamas enjoy a generational smoking session. The Obamas (Barack and daughter Malia) enjoy a generational smoking session.

When these black-and-white footage of former President Barack Obama surfaced in 2008 smoking a joint, the internet went nuts. I mean, wouldn’t you want to sit on a couch with baby-faced Barack in a fedora or motorcycle jacket and blow some O’s?

Obama averted scandal by speaking openly to the public about his past cannabis use. He even described the use of weed and other substances in his memoir, Dreams from My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance. And it seems like he’s passed his 420-friendly views on to at least one of his daughters.

Malia Obama, then a Harvard student, was also photographed at Lollapalooza 2016 smoking what could have been weed. Conservatives were having a great day trying to turn the matter into a moral issue, but the country collectively shrugged as the plant continued to overcome old stigmas at incredible rates.

Elon Musk on Joe Rogan

NASA's chief said the agency will investigate its Elon Musk-founded contractor SpaceX for compliance with drug-free employment contracts. (Joe Rogan Experience/YouTube)

These two blew their minds during an interview in 2018 and have mostly been blowing up smoke ever since. Rogan handed the billionaire a joint and urged him to smoke it as they were recording in California, where the plant is legal.

The memes that are followers are legendary, we’re just waiting for these two to invest more of their money and sizable platforms to create more 420-friendly spaces.

Sniff the Super Bowl

Sit down? Snoop Dogg smoked a marijuana cigarette and the internet has something to say about it.

Color us was shocked that hip-hop’s king stoner took a personal break to drive a joint while performing at the big game’s halftime show.

We’ve seen Snoop launch his own brand and media platform and get gambled with Martha Stewart, but sparking something on the world’s biggest stage felt like a historic moment for stoners worldwide.

Zach Galifianakis on Bill Maher

Zach Galifianakis has made it his mission to make people uncomfortable and find comedy in the unexpected.

One such moment came back on HBO in 2010 on Bill Maher’s Real Time talk show. While debating the legalization of drugs and Proposition 19 in California, Zach pulls out and lights a joint instead of articulating his stance on the matter.

The studio audience loved it. And Maher, a well-known stoner, probably did, too. But HBO’s legal team probably wasn’t interested in paying the FCC fine for violating federal laws. So she and Maher claimed there wasn’t actually weed in the joint he passed around the plate.

Yes ok folks

JAY-Z smokes weed on SNL

In 2000, JAY-Z took his buddies on Saturday Night Live to blow Ls in a droptop driven by Will Ferrell (as Robert Goulet).

JAY was never known for smoking as much as peers like Snoop or Cypress Hill, but he’s now heavily invested in a legal cannabis partnership with Caliva.

The SNL clip was a rare look at how the rapper and mogul actually acts when he’s stoned.

Along with outspoken friends Memphis Bleek and Beanie Sigel, JAY continues to take a few hits and, with Goulet’s vocal backing, put on one of the worst live performances in SNL history. Thankfully, JAY’s horny performance was part of the skit (we think).

Seth Rogen, anytime, anywhere

Point to every public appearance Seth Rogen has ever made and you can bet he’s smoked weed before. In case you haven’t noticed, this guy is stoned 24/7 and proudly so.

He smokes on the sets of his films, while writing, on podcasts and of course at home. In fact, it’s said that every time Seth Rogen lights a flower, a stoner gets his wings.

They were so baked that they had to call a driver to get home safely.

Aubrey Plaza smokes weed with Sisters of the Valley

Aubrey Plaza, some nuns, and some Zaza enter a room.

We wish there was a punch line. But in 2017, cool comedy girl Plaza joined the Sisters of the Valley nuns who grow medicinal weed to share their secret stash and love for the plant in this hilarious video.

“We believe cannabis oil was the other holy oil of the Bible,” said one nun during her baked dialogue. “Our position is that if Jesus lived, he probably smoked weed.”

The nuns say they grow weed to support themselves and “provide honorable, spiritual jobs for women.”

Miley Cyrus at the European Music Awards

Miley has smoked plenty of weed in public over the past decade since she ditched her Disney Channel image, but not all of her moves have been well received. In 2013, at the height of her bangerz phase, Cyrus lashed out and lit a joint on stage while accepting her award for best video, causing some news outlets to lose their minds.

Thank goodness the dark days of smoking are over and here are many more iconic puffs for you and yours.
