12 strains to pair with the best streaming shows and movies of 2021

Check out the strains that make up those streaming sensations in 2021.

We all had a lot of choices to make this year. But pandemic or not, there are two decisions that remain crucial for many of us: what to see on TV and what weed to smoke.

Using Leafly’s best cannabis strain lists, we’ve put together the ultimate year-end guide to help you smoke and watch some of the best TV programs of 2021 based on the genre and effects of the weed.

Comedy shows and their best pairs of strains

Normally I wouldn’t recommend having a box of tissues to watch comedy – but these shows will leave you crying.

Microphone on a stand-up comedy stage with reflectors ray, high contrast image

Desired Effects: silly or giggle

Tribes: Mother tongue, Purple Stardawg, Sour Bubba

South side

HBO max

Let’s start with a fan favorite that’s back for its second season, South Side. Originally on Comedy Central, South Side has returned as the HBO Max Original. Written, staged and starring nothing but Chicagoans, South Side is a gem just waiting to be found by you.

The Ms. Pat Show

BET +

Our next comedy favorite is The Ms. Pat Show, which is streamed exclusively on BET +. A superstar in the wait, Ms. Pat has made a name for herself as a comedian with an unforgettable personality. But I promise you, you’ve never seen a show like Ms. Pat’s.

Not only has it brought back the live studio audience, but I’m pretty sure this show could come with a parental warning like your favorite ’90s rap album.

The Upshaws

Netflix

We finally have The Upshaws on Netflix. Starring Kim Fields, Mike Epps and Wanda Sykes, this high-profile cast is far from disappointing. From start to finish, you’ll have LOLing and happy laughs in between at The Shaws.

The best sci-fi / adventure shows and pairs of strains

Retro Sci-Fi Background 80s futuristic grid landscape. Digital cyber surface. To match the design in the style of the 80s. 3d illustration

Desired Effects: focused or creative

Tribes: Aliens on Moonshine, Jet Fuel Gelato, Wedding Crasher

The falcon and the winter soldier

Disney +

I don’t know of any franchise that does better than the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but The Falcon and The Winter Soldier is a great story starring Anthony Mackie navigating his way through life after Captain America on Disney +. If you love superheroes, story, and action you will love this show.

Star Trek Discovery

Parent +

Our second recommendation drives us into the future and hops with Sonequa Martin-Green on a spaceship for Star Trek Discovery on Paramount +. Join Commander Michael Burnham as she navigates space with her crew and she carries on the legacy begun by Nichelle Nichols.

Foundation, endowment

AppleTV +

Lastly, as a television viewer, I can honestly say that I was amazed to see the AppleTV + foundation. I don’t want to reveal any plot of this show because I want you to be finished as I am. Lou Llobell, Leah Harvey and Alfred Enoch do a wonderful job of bringing drama and action to the galaxy – and giving science fiction lovers a true sense of adventure.

That was the craziest weed news of 2021

Drama shows and their best pairs of strains

3D rendering, realistic model of colorful vintage TV, empty empty space, pink and blue glowing background.

Desired Effects: relaxed and euphoric

Tribes: Chem Scout, OG # 18, animal biscuits

True story

Netflix

Drama is one of my favorite genres, so let’s start with some heavyweights. Kevin Hart and Wesley Snipes are the stars of the fantastic limited true story streaming series on Netflix.

In Philadelphia, take a breathtaking journey through fame and deception with some of Hollywood’s biggest names. Kevin Hart shows real reach here and Snipes is more brilliant than ever.

you

Amazon Prime Video

Nobody likes a cross-genre crazy ride more than I do. But Them on Amazon Prime Video is nothing short of a roller coaster ride.

Living during the second major migration, Them follows a black family who are moving from North Carolina to a white neighborhood in Los Angeles. This show isn’t for the faint of heart, but that’s where the weed comes in.

BMF

Starz

If anyone loves a good story about the drug trade, it is me. BMF on Starz is a story about the rise of the Black Mafia Family. Best known for their front man Big Meech, BMF is a new addition to the 50 Cent family of drug-ridden drama series. If history doesn’t grab you, it becomes the charm of Detroit in the 1980s.

The one and only Dick Gregory

show time

The One and Only Dick Gregory on SHOWTIME documents the life of St. Louisian Dick Gregory and his rise to a comedic and social giant.

Gregory can leave anyone speechless with his jokes and banter, but this documentary throws a different light on the man who was and is respected by so many.

A man named Scott

Amazon Prime Video

A Man Named Scott is actually a documentary about Kid Cudi. Amazon Prime Video isn’t exactly trending when people think of streaming services, but this story of Kid Cudi going from stranger to superstar is beautiful.

As a fan of Cudi, this movie was amazing to watch, and Cud made some of my favorite smoking music too.

Summer of the soul

Hulu

And I wanted to save the best for last. Questlove is considered one of the best musicians in the world, but now he is considered one of the best directors. Summer of Soul on Hulu reveals lost footage from the Harlem Culture Festival in 1969. The music, the people and the memories this movie evokes will make you dance and sing at home.

Well, this isn’t every great TV show to be streamed or every load of Leafly, but we promise you this is a start to some incredible streaming pairings. Comment below or tweet us with your favorite series and strain combinations.
